Meet Our Team

Diana M. Evjen - Director - born and raised in San Jose California, has studied, trained and performed throughout the world. From the ages of 13 to 18, Evjen was invited to tour Paris, London, various cities in Spain, Ireland and Scotland as a soloist and corps member with the JOD Dance Company. A few of her classical credits include Nutcracker, Peter and the Wolf and Mid Summer Nights Dream. Evjen hold a BA in business and dance from Hofstra University. From classical to contemporary performances to dance competitions and master classes, dance has always played a huge role in Evjen's life. Recently and locally, Evjen has taught dance for the Miss Porter's school, the Hartford Conservatory and choreographed the spring musical for Avon Old Farms High School.

Kristen Greig - studied dance at the Greater Hartford Academy of Performing Arts, Montclair State University, and Anaheim Ballet (formerly known as Coast Ballet). She is a former title holder and scholarship recipient from Dance Masters of America (CT, NYC, and Nationals), the Nikolais-Lewis School and Broadway Dance Center. Kristen has been teaching for over 15 years and has taught in CT, NJ, and CA. Her students have won numerous overall awards and titles at competition. Many have gone on to dance professionally in every venue, from music videos to theme parks to Broadway. Throughout her career as a teacher she has received numerous choreography awards and was recently recognized as a Top Teacher by Star Systems National Talent Competition. Kristen is married to "Mr. Joel" and is the proud mom of Ethan and Madison.

Bryan Smith - Originally from Longview, Texas, Bryan began his dance education at Longview High School as a member of the LHS Viewettes dance/drill team. He then attended the Hartford Conservatory where he graduated in 2007 with a Diploma in both Dance Pedagogy and Dance Performance. While in Connecticut, Bryan was a founding member of SOMA, a Hartford-based modern dance company, and performed with them from 2007 through 2010. He has also danced as a guest artist in the Hartford Conservatory's "Jazz Nutcracker", Woodbury Ballet's product of "The Nutcracker" and most recently in Hartford City ballet's 3rd Act of "Paquita". In 2008, Bryan attended Miami Dade College in Miami, FL as a Dance Major and continued his dance studies at the Ballet Academy of Miami. He returned to Connecticut in 2009, where he currently dances with dancEnlight and the Sonia Plumb Dance Company, both Hartford-based modern companies. He has been on faculty at the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts, Miss Porter's School, and at HTE Dance, a Texas-based dance camp company, as a dance instructor and choreographer. Bryan continues to study dance as well as choreograph and perform professionally.

Naomi Lemire - began her dance training at the age of three. She trained in ballet, pointe, modern, jazz, lyrical, and contemporary. At the age of twelve, she received a full scholarship to the pre-professional ballet program at the Hartt School Community Dance Division (previously Hartford Ballet) where she trained under the expert direction of Susan Brooker, Miguel Campaneria, and Debra Collins-Ryder. Some of her classical credits include lead roles in The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, Don Quixote, Coppelia, and Le Corsaire. In 2011, Lemire was selected to perform a classical variation on the television program, Better Connecticut. She was also the youngest member of Poet's Feet, a CT-based modern dance company. Lemire joined the Evjen faculty in 2011 and has had the pleasure of choreographing for the Evjen Elite competition team. Since joining the Evjen team, she has choreographed numerous award-winning pieces. In addition, she is the resident ballet competition coach. Some of her responsibilities include teaching and preparing students for various classical ballet competitions around New England. In 2015, Lemire graduated summa cum laude from Quinnipiac University and received a Bachelor of Arts in English. She feels exceptionally blessed to work at Evjen Academy and looks forward to another exciting year!

Rebekah Wilcox - has been teaching dance in the Farmington Valley for seven years and training and performing dance in Connecticut since the age of four. Rebekah has been a member of the Poet's Feet Dance Ensemble, Hartford Youth Dance Initiative and the Evjen Elite Dance Company. She has been the choreographer for Avon Old Farms School's theater program since 2010. Rebekah made her debut as director this past winter, with AOF's production of Damn Yankees. Last summer she was choreographer for East Granby Summer Youth Theater's production of Footloose. Rebekah also held the position of Artistic Director of The Master's School Dance Program for five years. This past year Rebekah traveled to Recife, Brazil with a team of performing artists to teach dance in a school for underprivileged children. Rebekah has performed in numerous musicals, concerts and dance performances throughout her career including: The Gift, The Nutcracker, And Crazy For You. Currently she performs in Valley Community Baptist Church's The Gift every December and continues to study dance and theatre. Rebekah loves being a teacher and choreographer at Evjen!

Olivia Wilcox - has been involved in the performing arts since the age of 7 and she has trained in Ballet, Jazz, Pointe, Modern, Lyrical, Hip Hop, Contemporary and Ballroom dance for over 12 years. Olivia is actively involved in local theater and some of her favorite rolls include "Lola" in Damn Yankees, "Hermia" in A Midsummer Night's Dream and "The Sugarplum Fairy" in The Evjen Academy's Nutcracker. Olivia has been teaching dance in the Farmington Valley for 5 years; she has lead the dance team at Valley Community Baptist Church and has also held the position of Assistant Director of The Master's School Dance Program within that time. Olivia is regularly involved with the musical, The Gift, at Valley Community Baptist Church, both as a performer and choreographer. She recently traveled to Recife, Brazil as a part of The Gift production to work with underprivileged children through the performing arts. Currently Olivia is looking forward to graduating from the cosmetology program at International Institute of Cosmetology. After graduation she hopes to work in a local salon in addition to teaching dance. Olivia is very excited for another great year here at Evjen!

Bill Coates - Tap, Rhythm Tap Ensemble. Bill Coates has taught tap dance up and down the east coast for almost 13 years. He has given master classes, taught teachers, and worked with children at countless studios as well as conventions. As an adjunct professor, he has taught tap dance at University of Maryland and Catholic University. Currently, he is on the faculty of Steps on Broadway, where he teaches students from young to old and beginner to professional. His classes emphasize rhythm, phrasing, speed and dexterity. They always include technique, mostly derived from tap greats such as Henry LeTang and Steve Condos.

Leanna Iacovetta - started dancing at age four and has trained in jazz, tap, ballet, lyrical, musical theater, postmodern, hip-hop, contemporary, improvisation and choreography/composition. Born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, Leanne moved to Los Angeles in 2008 to further her dance career and attend UCLA, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with B.A. degrees in World Arts and Cultures/Dance and Communications. Upon graduation, Leanne was asked to join David Roussève's contemporary dance company, David Roussève/REALITY, and toured the states as a dancer in his work Stardust. The company is currently in rehearsals working on a new piece that is set to tour in 2018-2019. Besides dancing professionally, Leanne is also the Co-Director of the UCLA Dance/Performing Arts Summer Intensive for high school students. She also mentors high school students pursuing arts careers through the college application process and beyond. Leanne has taught dance for 10 years around Ohio, Los Angeles and now Connecticut. She is thrilled to be joining the team at Evjen. Leanne is a working dancer and will join us in late September - when she returns from rehearsals & performances in Los Angeles. Leanne will teach some of our Jazz, Jumps and Turns classes, she will also be available for private lessons and company rehearsals & performance prep. She will also cover classes in various styles so she can work with a variety of our dancers.

Audra Brown - began her ballet training under the guidance of Noble Barker of New Haven Ballet. Later, she entered the competition and convention circuit dancing with the Hackworth School of Performing Arts. She attended the University of Connecticut earning a B.S. in Pathobiology and Veterinary Sciences. While at UCONN, Audra was a member of the Division 1A nationally ranked UCONN Dance Team, being nominated and selected as a Collegiate All-American in 2012 and 2013. She has been teaching since 2010 and has won numerous choreography awards. Audra also works with high school and college dance teams in the New England area; choreographing for game performances and helping them prepare for competitions. She currently works at the Center for Education, Simulation and Innovation (CESI) at Hartford Hospital performing pre-clinical research. In class, Audra emphasizes precision, confidence, and musicality and hopes to help all of her students reach their goals as dancers. She is very excited to be joining the faculty at Evjen!

Christine Finch - was born and raised in Connecticut. She began dancing at the age of three with Dolorus Aamoth. At age ten, Christine moved to Eastern Connecticut Ballet where she studied dance pre-professionally. She trained in ballet, pointe, modern dance, jazz and character dance at this studio. Christine received training from Lise Reardon, Adam Miller, Krystin Baribault, Adam Miller, Maggie Pelton, Arantxa Ochoa, Sasha Ochoa, Adriana Suarez, Debra Collins-Ryder, Deborah Flomine, and Alla Nikitina. She danced roles in The Nutcracker such as flowers corps and Snow Queen as well as Clara's mother. Christine continued her dance studies at Butler University under such teachers as Cynthia Pratt, Michelle Jarvis, Rosanna Ruffo, Susan McGuire, Tong Wang, Stephan Laurent, Marek Cholewa, Derek Reid, and Laura Byram. At Butler University she performed in The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, Lost Objects, Farewell to the Singing Earth, and Karelia Suite. Christine graduated from Butler University in May 2011 with a B.A. in Dance Pedagogy and has been teaching dance at numerous dance studios since then.
